An Oregon Coast adventure elopement at Elk Flats Trail has a way of feeling like it exists slightly outside of time. The cliffs hold wind differently in the early morning, and the ocean sounds closer and heavier.
We met before sunrise, long before most of the coast had fully woken. Itzel and Aiden stepped into their elopement day with intention and excitement. As an adventure elopement photographer, days like this are the ones that feel most aligned with why I do this work in the first place. Slow mornings, honest emotion, and breathtaking landscapes just can’t be beaten.
Choosing an Oregon Coast Elopement
Itzel and Aiden wanted something small and personal for their elopement day. They knew they didn’t want anything overly structured or performative.
They didn’t come to me with a fully formed plan or a specific location in mind for their elopement. Instead, they came with trust and a desire to experience their day in a way that felt connected to nature and to each other. That openness shaped everything!
Planning the Experience Together
Before their elopement, I created a detailed location guide for them. I shared curated options along the Oregon Coast that aligned with the kind of atmosphere they were drawn to… moody, cinematic, a little wild, and intentionally private where possible.
Elk Flats Trail quickly became the place that made the most sense for them. It had the right balance of intimacy and edge. It’s quiet, but not soft, and beautiful, but not predictable. We talked through timing, light, pacing, and built a plan for a morning that didn’t feel rushed or overly structured.
The initial planning collaboration is always one of my favorite parts of the elopement process! I offer planning help to all of my elopement couples, and it’s where the experience really starts to take shape.
Why Elk Flats Trail
Elk Flats Trail along the Oregon Coast is one that feels both expansive and slightly intimidating in the best way. The cliffs open suddenly to the ocean, giving wide views of moving water and shifting wind. Depending on the morning, it can feel soft and fog-laced or raw and exposed.
For an Oregon Coast adventure elopement, it offers exactly what so many couples are looking for without always knowing how to describe it. It has privacy without isolation and drama without chaos.
Sunrise to Cliffside Experience
We started the day at 4:30am. Itzel and Aiden moved slowly through the early morning, wrapped in layers and quietly taking in the fact that their elopement day had already begun.
As we made our way toward Elk Flats Trail, the first hints of light started to shift across the sky. The hike down toward the cliffs felt calm and unhurried. The trail gradually opened to more of the coastline, and the sound of the ocean grew louder with each step.
When we finally reached the cliffs, the entire coastline opened up in front of us. Fog drifted along the water below while the wind moved through the grass around us. Itzel and Aiden explored the cliffs together, taking in the views and settling into the quietness of the morning.

Itzel and Aiden’s elopement at Elk Flats Trail felt intentional from beginning to end. I loved how they allowed the landscape to shape the experience and stayed fully present with each other throughout it all.
